城市道路照明节电有很大的潜力。除了选择高效灯具之外,更要实施半夜灯。这就是在深夜,适当降低加在灯具上的电压,达到节电的目的。目前国内外的电磁式照明节电器基本上采用自耦变压器、补偿变压器或电抗器为主要元件,用系统软件控制其分时段调压调亮而节电。根据路灯在不同电压下的光电参数及寿命特性,推定出城市道路照明灯具的最佳供电电压:上半夜为额定电压220V,下半夜为最佳电压200V。组成V/V0变压器-路灯照明节电系统,该系统不需要增加自耦变压器、补偿变压器或电抗器等设施及复杂的控制装置,只需要将路灯变压器作V/V0接线(采用V/V0路灯专用变压器;或将目前使用的Y/Y0变压器的一相悬空);然后通过电子控制器在深夜自动断开变压器二次侧的中性线,变成V/V接线;使灯具的电压从相电压自动变换到线电压的一半。
