The cognitive models of metaphor and metonymy are different. Similarity is the cognitive base for metaphor. It is this similarity that builds the relationship between human being and the physical world. Thus two cognitive models concerned form, i.e. the "source model" and the "target model". In metaphor the "source model" is more familiar than the "target model". While the two models are related and interacted to each other, the character and the structure of the "source model" are mapping to those of the "target model". So the mapping in metaphor is between two different models. The mapping in metonymy is only on one cognitive model. In this cognitive model, "target model" embodies the "source model".
