After entering China from India, Sakra devānām Indra became a godlike figure among the populace on this land, which was well realized against the background of the widespread Buddhism among the Chinese people. It has symbolized the Chinese characteristics of cultural tolerance in absorbing foreign elements, and the images of Sakra devānām Indra in Dunhuang variations are the concentration of such tolerance.
