On the problem whether the Jiahu site has the evidence of domestic pigs, there have been divergent opinions in academic circles. In the light of newly discovered data from the seventh excavation on the site, the previously obtained related material should be re-sorted and restudied. Tests by means of the sequence judging standard indicate that domestic pigs had been bred among the Jiahu people by the first phase of the site. This suggests that the first appearance of domestic pigs in North China can be traced up to about 6500 BC. According to the results of a comparative study of the pig-bones from Jiahu and those from the Kuahu site, distinct regional differences exist between the two groups, which provided archaeozoological evidence for the theory of multi-center origins of Chinese domestic pigs.
