Physiological characteristics of eggplant seedlings were researched at 5℃ and 8℃ in order to understand eggplant physiological mechanism under low temperature condition in the present study. The results showed that superoxide dismutase(SOD) activity increased with temperature dropping, which was highest when at 5℃. Peroxidase(POD) activity was greatly boosted. It increased 292% and 113% comparing to control at 5℃ and 8℃ , respectively. The differences were extremely significant; catalase (CAT)activity dropped, then decrease with temperature falling; malondialdehyde (MDA) content increased 24.94% and 30.22% compared to that of control at 5℃ and 8℃, respectively; with temperature falling, contents of proline and soluble protein increased.
