摘要 要使一个正常人能产生浸没在一个计算机产生的虚拟环境中的幻觉,所必要的视场角至少应能覆盖人眼的光轴上所能直接看到的区域——大约90°。随着水平视场角一直增大,幻觉都会随之增强。再加上立体视觉,以及通过头部运动跟踪实现的整个360°视场,将使幻觉达到十分完美的程度。这些就是头盔显示器的主要功能。本文描述了一种用在灵境系统的头盔显示中的光学观察系统,给出了其设计要点。由于采用了视场边缘大畸变的径向压缩技术,使得这个系统在保证大视场的同时,尽量提高了视场中央的分辨率。并指出,即使在目前液晶显示和计算机图形技术还很不成熟的状况下,头盔显示系统产生的幻觉也是非常惊人的,它预示着新一代计算机界面的来临。 A virtual reality system should be able to give the user an illusion of being immersed in the virtual environment.For this purpose,it must provide a field angle that is large enough to cover a region which the optical axis of eyes can directly view,which is about 90°.The illusion will be enhanced with the further increasing of horizontal field angle.The illusion will be perfected by the realization of 360° field angle through head motion tracking together with stereopsis.These are the main functions of the helmet mounted display(HMD).An optical viewing system used in such a HMD system is described in the paper and its design outline is given.Large distortion is deliberately introduced at the edge of the field of view, so the large field of view of the system has been kept,at the same time the resolution at the center of the field of view has been improved greatly.The paper points out that even if the present liquid crystal display and computer graphics are immature,the illusion created by the helmet mounted display is amazing,and it means that a new generation of computer interface will come.
