苯酚在工业上的用途很广，主要用做合成酚醛树脂、双酚A、己内酰胺、烷基酚、水杨酸等的原料；还可用做溶剂、试剂和消毒剂，在合成纤维、合成橡胶、塑料、医药、农药、香料、染料、涂料和炼油工业中也有应用。近年来，由于电子通讯、汽车工业和建筑业的迅猛发展，导致双酚A和酚醛树脂需求的快速增加，从而带动苯酚需求的强劲增长。
The global production capacity of phenol was 9.663 million tons last year,its consumption worldwide was 8.58 million tons in 2007,which was mainly used to produce bisphenol A and phenolic resins.It is forecasted that the global consumption of phenol will increase at a rate of 4.8% annually,which will reach 9.596 million tons by 2010.The production capacity of phenol was 506 thousand tons in China in 2007.In next five years,the production capacity of phenol would be 706 thousand tons per year in China.It is forecasted that the demand of phenol in market will increase at an annual rate of 5%,it will reach 1 million tons by 2010.
