The characteristics of the development of acupuncture in the soth century are the international-ization and modernization for acupuncture. It has been spreading in over 140 countries and regions.More than 800 diseases can be treated by it in clinics. The method of treatment has been brought forth new ideas on the basis of inheriting, and the theoretical research has been developed in depth. In the internationalization course there is an attitude to acupuncture in international society, in the modern-ization course there is development direction of acupuncture academlc science. They will not be re-solved till 21st century. In 21st century the legislation about acupuncture wjll be scheduled in mostcountries, great breakthrough will be made in the theoretical research on.acupunctute and therapeutic techniques and clinical efficacy will further be enhanced. The principal mark for its modernization is the formation of the contemporary acupuncfure discipline characterized by not only preserving the theo-retical system of TCM but also filling with the connotation of modern sciences.
