The catalytic properties of Pd/Al 2O 3 catalyst before and after being modified by Pb for the hydrogenation of cyclopentadiene to cyclopentene have been investigated in a fixed bed reactor. A 98% yield of cyclopentene was obtained over Pb modified Pd/Al 2O 3 catalyst. The optimum conditions for modification of the catalyst have been determined and its activity has been measured. The catalysts modified with different quantity of Pb have been characterized by XPS and the pulse hydrogen oxygen titration method to determine the number of Pd atoms on the surface.
