托茂作为一个边缘穆斯林群体，生产生活于蒙藏地区。托茂是什么？其族源如何？翻阅历史文献，深入实地调查，综合前人研究成果，作者勾勒了托茂及其族源历史的图景。
As a marginal Muslim group, To Mao work and live in the Mongolian and Tibetan areas. Who is ＂Tuo--mao＂; what is the ethnic origin of it？ Based on the historical written documents and in--depth fieldwork, the author outlines the ethnic origin of To Mao and its history with the help of previous researches.
