The necessity of developing characteristic library holdings was elaborated with an introduction of the development of characteristic library holdings in our library, including a characteristic database of Nanyang traditional Chinese herbal medicine, documents of Zhang - zhong jing＇ s doctrines, medical visual materials, books published by authors born in Nanyang, etc. The problems needing attention was also discussed.
