It ought tO be reviewed the geomorphologic marks of Neotectonic movement inthe eastern China and its indicated significance. The summit level may be directly formed on the top of high mountain due to raising of rate of weathering anddenudation with the increase of mountain altitude . The origin of some of the highterraces was obviously related to the high sea-level during the Tertiary . But some ofthe buried deep trough embedded in large valley, which was buried under erodiblechannel related to the low sea-level during the Quaternary glacial periods, ought to bean ample evidence of tectonic sinking. In the eastern China, the tectonic movements were very violent from Cretaceous to Tertiary . The palaeogeomorphologic texture there were composed of series ofmassive mountain systems and rift valleys. The main rifts were the Yilan, the lowerLiaohe river-Bobal Sea-Huanghua . the Tancheng-Lujiang, the East China Sea, theTaiwan strait etc. The terrain relief betWeen the palaeio-mountain and the rift bottomreached 5 000-8 000m or more. The Neotectonic movements haVe been sunk differently in amount in the easternChina since the Neogene. The palaeo-mountain masses during the Cretaceous -Tertiarybecame 'hidden mountains' buried under the loose depositS with the thickness ofseveral thousand meters. And the low mountains and hills in Liaoning, Shandong, andJiangsu province were encircled by accumulation plains or shallow seas. The Neotectonic movementS of the southeastern coastal region were characterized by depression sloping towards the East China Sea, the Taiwan Strait and the SouthChina Sea. The palaeo-peak plane, originally formed on altitude of the climatic limit consisting of granite rock, with the weathered crust with thickness of hundred meters, has been sunk to altitude of 300- 150m or less above sea-level. In Taiwan Island, the mountains located at two sides of collisional suture between Eurasia plato andPhilippine plate, were characterized by strong uplift with a rate of 5.5- 11mm / asince the last full-glacial Period. Hence, the east side of the continent of China, generally is characterized by depression coast.
