己内酰胺（CPL）是一种重要的化工原料．主要用于生产尼龙6纤维、尼龙6树脂和薄膜，在纺织、汽车、电子、机械等领域具有广泛的应用。尼龙6工程塑料主要用作汽车、船舶、电子电器、工业机械和日用消费品的构件和组件等：尼龙6纤维可制成纺织品、工业丝和地毯用丝等：此外，己内酰胺还可用于生产抗血小板药物6-氨基己酸、月桂氮革酮等，用途十分广泛。
The traditional production techniques of caprolactam and its new developing progresses in technology were introduced. The production, consumption and development prospect of caprolactam in the world were analyzed in this article. The production capacity of caprolactam was 4.63 million tons with total consumption about 3.81 million tons in 2008 globally. It is forecasted that the total consumption of caprolactam worldwide would reach about 4.2 million tons in 2012. The production capacity of caprolactam in China was 380kt with total consumption about 737.8kt in 2008. It is forecasted that the total consumption of caprolactam in China would reach about 1.0 million tons in 2012. The development prospect of caprolactam in China is bright. It is pointed out that the enterprises of China should adopt advanced production technology and must enlarge the scale of facilities actively so as to alleviate the contradiction existing in supply and demand of caprolactam thoroughly.
