Carbon molecular sieves (CMS) are prepared from walnut shell char with sulfite pulp waste liquor as binder Effects of Fe 3O 4 addition on the properties of the CMS are investigated Suitable carbonization temperature is determined to be 500℃ by means of DTA and XRD With increasing Fe 3O 4 addition, the air separation ability of the CMS increases, reaches to maximum at 11 6w% Fe 3O 4, and then decreases afterwards Molecular probe adsorption is used to study comparatively the micropore structure of the CMS with and without Fe 3O 4 added The result showes that the addition of Fe 3O 4 decreases the total micropore volume of the CMS but increases the micropore volume in the range of 0 33 ̄0 40 nm, which means that the addition of the Fe 3O 4 improves the micropore size distribution of the CMS and leads to a better air separation ability of the CMS
