In order to evaluate the function of different vegetation in eco-restoration of karst rocky desertification (KRD) objectively, so as to provide theoretical basis for pioneer species selection in the management of KRD. Based on a great deal of field survey and a lot of experimental analysis, by means of mathematical statistics method, the soil organic matter content (SOM) and relevance between SOM and other soil fertility factors were comparative analyzed. The result showed that the influence of different vegetation and different restoration patterns on SOM content were different, the relevance of vegetation types and SOM content was extremely significant. Native species played a very important role in eco-restoration of KRD. The SOM content of the plots which dominant species was Pteroceltis tatarinowii were obviously higher than that of the primeval forest and any other plots. The SOM content of other native trees, such as Platycladus orientalis, Zenia insignis, Cyclobal- anopsis glauca, Vitex negundo, etc. plots were higher than that of the alien species, such as Pinus eliottii, Eucalyptus robusta plots. With the recover time increase, the SOM content also had an upward trend. But, after 50 years, the SOM content of the primeval forest plots decreased slightly. Based on the analysis related, some suggestion, such as rational allocating species, paying more attention to local plants, full accounting of eco-eco-nomic benefits in KRD management, etc. were put forward by the authors.
