摘要
本文探讨了普遍语法理论对二语习得研究的影响。文章首先概述了Chomsky的语言哲学观和语言设计思想,然后分析了语言习得的逻辑问题、二语习得的初始状态和普遍语法可及性问题,用研究实例解释普遍语法理论对二语习得研究的影响。普遍语法视角的二语习得研究不是描述而是解释。尽管不能解释二语习得的所有问题,普遍语法理论的发展给二语习得研究带来新的思路和挑战。
This article explores the impact of Chomsky's Universal Grammar (UG) theory on second language acquisition (SLA) research. The first part of the article presents Chomsky' s language philosophy and language design, followed by an elaboration of such issues as the logical problem of language acquisition, the initial state and the accessibility of universal grammar in SLA. UG impact on SLA research is further illustrated with examples. It is argued that UG-based L2 research is explanatory rather than descriptive although it does not cover every aspect of L2 acquisition. The development of UG theory brings about new research issues and challenges to SLA studies.
