摘要
运用语境顺应论的基本原理,分析了英国翻译家Hawkes对中国古典名著《红楼梦》第26回50个"笑"字的不同处理,认为语境顺应论对文学作品翻译也具有同样的阐释力,提出译者可以顺应不同的语境因素,采用选择、补充、转译和省略的策略翻译汉语词汇,以达到用最切近而又最自然的对等语再现原语信息的翻译目的。
By virtue of the contextual adaptability theory, the paper analyzes the translation of the Chinese character ＂xiao＂ in the 26th chapter of The Story of the Stone by the English translator Hawkes, and presents a notion that this pragmatic theory can also he applied in literature translation. It puts forward four translating strategies of Chinese characters in the last part, ie. hyponymy choosing, information supplement, substitution and omission, through which the goal of regaining the original image in translation by means of the most appropriate and natural expressions can be achieved.
