Zingerone was obtained by Claisen-Schmidt consendation from vanillin and acetone in the presence of sodium hydroxide under ultrasonic irradiation, followed by catalytic transfer hydrogenation reduction with HCOONHa-Pd/C under ultrasonic irradiation in 86.5 % overall yield.
