The early missionary medical colleges played important roles during the process of the modern medicine spreading in China. This paper gives an account of the history of the colleges and their training courses, including the Peking Union Medical College and the Hsiang-Ya Medical College. Many Chinese people funded these colleges and the medical missionaries in China at that time prepared the best textbooks and teaching facilities for the colleges.Very few colleges accepted English as their teaching language, but they achieved good results. In this early period of time, there were not great amount of graduates from these colleges, but the laboratories were sufficiently equipped and some teachers started their research activities in several colleges. These colleges represent a new era in the history of the modern medical education in China.
