The main function of human immune system is to protect us from invading pathogens and microorganisms by destroying infec- ted cells, while minimizing collateral damage to tissues. In order to maintain this balance, various immune effector cells are indispensable. Within the large pool of different immune effeetor cells ,the CD4+ CD25+regulatory T cells play an important role in controlling immune responses and the maintenance of peripheral immune tolerance. The decrease or afunction of them will result in the development of autoimmune disease. Therapies that could possibly increase the suppressive ability of T regulatory cells were proven to improve the course of autoimmune diseases. The relationship between the function of regulatory T cells and common autoimmune disease will be reviewed in this article.
