The layered double hydroxides (LDHs) pillared by polyoxometalates, Co 2Al XW 11 Z (X=B 3+ , Si 4+ , Ge 4+ and As 5+ ; Z=Cu 2+ , Co 2+ and Ni 2+ ), have been synthesized in aqueous solution by the direct ion exchange reaction in which the monosubstituted Keggin type heteropolyanion with transitional element replaced the NO - 3 ion in the layers of Co 2Al NO 3 precursor. The results of XRD and FTIR measurements indicate that they are the pillared layered compounds with gallery height of 1 00±0 01 nm. Keggin type framework of the heteropolyanion remains constant in the layers. The composition of these compounds has been evidenced by TG and ICP analyses. A probe reaction of the oxidation of aldehyde with H 2O 2 as oxidant was made to investigate the catalytic oxidative activity of these pillared layered compounds in liquid solid biphase. The formation rate of the product acetic acid was 20~53 mmol/(g·h) and the mixture of CH 3CHO, H 2O 2 and catalyst was a mole ratio of 1∶2∶0 0067, showing that they were excellent oxidative catalysts in liquid solid biphase.
