Objective To study the mechanism of the Compound Qinbai Granule (Granules composed of Scutellaria root and Phel- lodendron bark) in the treatment of radioactive dermatitis in rats. Methods The rat models of radioactive dermatitis were established and randomized into three groups: Compound Qinbai Granule group (experimental group), dexamethasone ointment group (traditional group), and normal saline group (control group). The wound was treated with Compound Qinbai Granule spray, dexamethasone oint- ment external application, and normal saline spray respectively. By immunohistochemieal staining and image analysis, the growth of granulation tissue in the wound area wound healing rate, and the expression of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) in the wound tis- sues were determined on the second, sixth, tenth, eighteenth, and twenty-fourth day after injury. Results The average number of granulation tissue and wound healing rate in the experimental group on the sixth, tenth, eighteenth, and twenty-fourth day were all higher than those in the traditional group and control group with a significant difference (P〈0.01 or P〈0.05). The expression of bFGF in the experimental group on the sixth, tenth, eighteenth day was also higher than that in the control group and traditional group (P〈0. 05). Conclusion Compound Qinbai Granule is effective for the radioactive dermatitis of rats, its mechanism may be re- lated with the promotion of the bFGF expression in the wound area.
