The paper presents a study of reporting clauses, particularly the Subject features of these clauses, in the academic papers of Chinese EFL students. A corpus of senior theses by Chinese undergraduates majoring in English and a comparable corpus of senior theses by American students are used for the purpose of the research. The result shows that the Chinese EFL students tend to inadequately use those types of reporting clauses whose Subject features contribute to the stylistic objectivity, academic rigor and persuasiveness of the research articles.
