摘要
端系统能力和网络带宽的异构性给大规模组播的流控带来很大困难.本文将前向纠错(FEC)技术与层次传输相结合,较好地解决了异构环境下可靠组播的流控问题.我们给出了传输调度和信道速率分配的算法,讨论了差错控制问题.性能分析和模拟表明,该方法对大规模、异构组播组可显著减少平均传输时间并且有效地利用网络带宽.只需较少数目的组播组就能得到性能的很大提高.软件FEC编码器的速度能够匹配当前的网络条件,算法易于实现,尤其适合因特网上的数据传输应用.
Controlling the rate of multicast data transfer to a large number of receivers is difficult, due to the heterogeneity among the end systems' capabilities and their available network bandwidth. For the data streams such as audio and video which are tolerant to loss, the heterogeneity problem can be overcomed using the layered coding and the layered transmission techniques. However, the problem of using the layered transmission in reliable multicast is not solved well. This paper presents an integrated forward error correction (FEC) and layered transmission techniques to solve this problem. The sender transmits original packets and redundant packets in separate multicast groups, while a receiver can join one or more multicast groups to receive packets concurrently according to its available bandwidth. A transmission scheduling algorithm and a multicast channel rate allocation algorithm are given, and the error control method is discussed. Analysis and simulations show that this scheme performs well for large and diverse groups and makes efficient use of network bandwidth. Only a small number of multicast groups are needed to get most of the performance gain possible. The speed of the software FEC coder is fast enough to match the bandwidth of current computer networks. The scheme is easy to implement and specially suitable for Internet application.
