A system for automatically aligning and stabilizing a high energy laser beam is designed. The optical train of high energy laser system is usually set up on different platforms, but optical elements in the train must be coaxial. A guiding light arm is designed to align the laser beam propagating between platforms. A unit of the arm is like a periscope. The guiding light arm in good condition can make the output direction of the laser beam relative to the final platform unchange when platforms move at a low frequency. A device for stabilizing high energy laser beam, including a null position sensor, a tilting mirror and its servo electronics device, a beam splitter and a lens, is used to compensate for the drafting of laser beam in real time. The design combines the guiding light arm with the device for stabilizing laser beam. A small system is made and the accuracy of aligning and stabilizing a He-Ne laser beam is less than 5μrad.
