Objective:The aim is to investigate the usage of fluorides among preschool children in Bao'an District,Shenzhen(2005 ~2009) and evaluate the effect of fluorides on dental caries prophylaxis used by preschool children.Method:In the period of 2005~2009,the usage of fluorides in kindergartens in Bao'an District was monitored, combining with the semiannual oral health examination and collecting information on fluoride usage and oral health of preschool children to analyze the effect of fluorides on dental caries prophylaxis.Result:During the 5 years,a total of 46279 cases of preschool children were monitored, wherein fluorides were used in 40851 cases, and the usage rate is calculated as 88.27 %.The usage rates of fluorine-containing mouth-washing,fluorine-containing gel and fluorinated foam are 91.28 %,81.28 % and 95.33 %,respectively;the respective swallowing rates for the 3 different fluorides are 5.63 %,3.17 % and 1.10 %.The differences between usage rates and swallowing rates of different fluorides showed statistical significance(x2=1643.01,P = 0.000;x2=403.66,P =0.000).Caries prevalence rate has dropped from 76.19 % in 2005 to 45.91 % in 2009;caries have dropped from 6.11 in 2005 to 3.07 in 2009;The differences between caries prevalence rates of different years showed statistical significance(x2=2416.58,P =0.000).Conclusion:Positive results have been achieved through dental caries prophylaxis project for preschool children in Bao'an District during 2005~2009,and fluorides can potently decrease the incidence of dental caries.
