Motion sickness can be caused by a variety of motion environments (e.g., cars, boats or ships, planes, funfair rides, space shuttle, simulators, virtual reality) and when given a sufficiently provocative motion stimulus almost anyone with a functioning vestibular system can be made motion sickness. It is difficult for the study of motion sickness to achieve breakthrough, the main reason is that there were many individual differences in susceptibility to motion sickness. Factors goveming motion sickness susceptibility may be divided broadly into two groups: Those related to the stimulus (the nature, intensity and duration of provocative stimulus) and those related to the individual (sensitivity, individual differences in inherit and gender, habituation or sensitisation, and previous experience with the motion stimulus). The aim of this paper is to review some of the more important factors governing motion sickness susceptibility.
