When the themes of family histories, religious beliefs and femininity are narrated in Faulkner' s Yoknapatawpha myths, a noticeable narrative motif, namely, "patriarch), worship/interrogation" motif, has been developed around these themes. Based on the study of the unique economic system, family culture in American South and Faulkner' s life in the world, the present paper intends to analyze the inevitable contradiction of the motif. It is just through this contradiction that we can explore the contradictory historical ideology in Faulkner' s clan narratives and his profound reconsideration of the modernization in the United States.
