The quantitative distribution, and population structure of yellow goosefish Lophius litulo and ecological environment characteristics were analyzed based on the seasonal data collected from a bottom trawl survey carried out in the northern East China Sea and southern Yellow Sea(26°00′-35°00′ N,121°00′-127°00′ E) from May in 2008 to February in 2009.The results showed that the fish was found dominantly in Dasha fishing ground,Jiangwai fishing ground,Zhouwai fishing ground and the southern Lianqingshi fishing ground. The catch in the whole year was observed at a rate of 0.143 kg/h,the maximum 0.298 kg/h of quantity distribution in summer, followed in winter(0.143 kg/h) and the minimum in spring(only 0.032 kg/h).The fish caught had 268 mm(27-650 mm) in average body length and 806 g(0.6-6 715 g) in body weight in the catch, with distinct difference in ratio of male to female,292 mm and 951 g in winter, larger than in other seasons, and the minimum in summer. The yellow goosefish was found to spawn in April and in May.The bottom temperature ranged from 6.43 ℃ to 20.01 ℃ with the mean value 13.02 ℃.The bottom salinity ranged from 30.37 to 35.03,with the mean value 32.90.The water depth ranged from 17.0 to 107.2 m,with mean value 64.4 m.The crowded fish was observed at the depth ranging from 40 m to 80 m.
