To study the joint toxic effect of heavy metals on the aquatic species, the toxicity of single Cu2+, Cd2+ and Cr6+ was studied using zebrafish by semi-static test, and based on the obtained 96 h-LC50 the joint effect of Cu-Cd, Cu-Cr and Cd-Cr to zebrafish was investigated using the equivalent curve model. Analysis of toxicological indices was performed to study the possibility of using zebrafish as a biological indicator in water quality monitoring. The results showed that the 96 h-LC50 of Cu2+, Cd2+ and Cr6+ was 0.296, 17.72 and 64.63 mg·L-1, respectively. The toxicity followed the order of Cu2+Cd2+Cr6+. Cu2+ was high toxic substance, while Cd2+ and Cr6+ were low toxic substances. The types of joint effects of Cu-Cd, Cu-Cr and Cd-Cr to zebrafish were synergistic effect, antagonistic effect and synergistic effect, respectively. The activities of CAT and the concentrations of Cu2+, Cd2+ and Cr6+ showed obvious dose-response relationship, respectively. So zebrafish can be used as a biological indicator for monitoring heavy metal pollution.
