Objective To study the role of single-nucleotide polymorphism(SNP) of Receptor for advanced glycation end products(RAGE) in the occurrence and evolution of atherosclerosis.Methods 221 angiographically diagnosed CAD(CAD+ group) and 208 non-CAD subjects(CAD-group) were enrolled in our study.Subjects with diabetes mellitus were excluded.The genotyping of RAGE SNP was performed by Polymerase Chain Reaction-Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism.Results the Ser/Ser genotype and the Ser allele in CAD+group were significantly higher than that in CAD-group(P=0.007 and P0.001 respectively).The numbers of diseased vessels in Ser/Ser carriers were markedly higher than those in the Gly/Ser and Gly/Gly carriers(both P0.05).Logistic regression analyses showed the presence of Ser/Ser genotype was a risk factor for CAD(P0.001).Conclusions The data suggests a positive association between the SNP of RAGE gene and CAD in a non-diabetic Chinese cohort.
