Louise Erdrich is one of the most outstanding modem writers in th United States. Love Medicine is her representative work that won a name for herself. She wrote in a novel way from the Indian's perspective about the impact of what had happened in the past related to Indian people on their life, making the world know the American Indian's feelings and thinking in the post -colonial era. Love Medicine reveals truly the state of existence of Indian people in Reservations from passive perplexity to the awakening of the sense of nationality, from sticking to tradition to selectively accepting the white people's living way and taking advantage of the federal govemment's laws to better their life. While persuing identity the American Indian have to face the fact that their young generation is deviating further and further from their tradition under the influnce of the mainstream culture.
