In situ double layer composites of Al Fe alloy, which possess the microstructure of primary Fe phase with gradient distribution in outer layer and no primary Fe phase in inner layer, have been achieved by preheated metal mould centrifugal casting. The structural characteristics were investigated, the distributions of the primary Fe phase and the hardness of the composites along radius were tested, and the wearability of the composites was also analyzed.
