C-reactive protein (CRP) was traditionally considered a biomarker of inflammation, however, recent studies have proved that CRP exerts prothrombotic effects on vascular cells and plays a critical role in atherothrombosis.CRP increases the risk of ischemic vascular events, for example, myocardial infarction. CRP has been detected in atherosclerotic lesions in human coronary arteries .
