摘要
美国印第安女作家厄德里克的代表作《爱药》深刻反映了处于文化夹缝中的印第安人的真实生活状态。作品以英语书写,却传递了与西方文明迥然异质的印第安部落文化和意识。从克里斯蒂娃解析符号学关于符号、象征的概念入手,分析《爱药》独特的话语体系,对其表现为混乱、空缺、魔幻的异质性特征进行探讨。通过分析可以看出,上述特点体现了话语中符号与象征秩序之间的冲撞与对抗。被压抑的民族记忆、被抹杀的历史作为符号进入殖民者的话语系统,构筑了《爱药》话语的多元空间,同时赋予了话语颠覆性和革命性的力量,使得借用殖民者的语言来表征被殖民者的文化、身份、意识和世界观成为可能。
Louise Erdrich＇s Love Medicine explores most vividly the situation of Native Americans caught between cultures.It is my aim in this paper to analyze in the light of Julia Kristeva＇s concepts of the symbolic and semiotic the discourse of the novel to show its heterogeneous nature as characterized by the apparent incoherence,absence and magic of the language.My study shows that the above mentioned features reflect the conflicts between the semiotic and the symbolic.The suppressed collective memory and the excluded history enter the discourse in the form of semiotic and open space for dialogue within the system,making it possible to use the colonizer＇s language to express what is native and ethnic.
