Objective To study the complications and nursing of elderly patients with pacemaker implantation. Methods 208 patients, aged 70 and over, were divided into two groups, the patients with only one underlying heart disease were as single chronic disease group(n=98), the patients with 2 or more chronic diseases were as multiple chronic disease group(n= 110). Results Complications occurred in 2 cases in single chronic disease group, 16 cases in multiple chronic disease group. Incidence of complications in single chronic disease group was less than that in multiple chronic disease group. During 3 years after pacemaker implantation, 1 patient in single chronic disease group died, 12 patients in multiple chronic disease group died. The mortality rate in single chronic disease group was lower than that in multiple chronic disease group. Conclusion Elderly patients with multiple chronic diseases after pacemaker implantation has higher risks. Corresponding nursing has to be strengthened in order to avoid and reduce the complications. It can improve the operation successrate, survival rate and the quality of nursing.
