摘要
英国翻译理论家皮特·纽马克把语言界定为六种功能:表情功能,信息功能,祈使功能,美感功能,酬应功能,元语功能。我们可以借助文本类型来认识语言的功能,同时,在某种程度上,对语言功能的认识也对整个翻译的过程起到了指导作用。本文从这六种功能的不同角度出发,用一些例句来说明,翻译的过程只有考虑到不同的语言功能才能使翻译的文本既忠实原文又不失文彩。
Language is defined as six functions by British translation theorist Peter Newmark： the expression function, infor mation function, imperative function, aesthetic function, phatic function, and metalingual function. We can make use of the text type to understand the function of language, the same time, in a way, the understanding of the function of language for the entire translation process has played a guiding role. These six functions of different angles of view, with some sentences to illustrate the process of translation only take into account the different language functions to make text translation is both faithful to the original without losing the text color.
