摘要
通过对"设计"一词词源学的考察和对技术设计史的追溯探讨了技术设计的本质,指出工程中的技术设计关注效率形式,忽略审美形式。工程设计是用几何分析和数学公式来表达,然后在真正的制造开始之前用模型来测试制作中有可能会发生的情况。这种新的制作与思维形式,使得制作和使用具有了人类历史上前所未有的巨大权力和效率;但同时正因为此,也要求人们对它可能产生的后果给予更多的关注。这种新的伦理要求称为周全义务。尽管这样的伦理自身充满了挑战,但仍旧表明技术设计是有形而上学含义的。最后指出了一条通向技术设计实践真实性的道路。
Abstract： The distinctive character of technological design is explored through the etymology of the term ＂design＂ and technological design history. Technological design as manifested in engineering, ignores aesthetic form in favor of the pursuit of some form of efficiency. Engineering design enrolls geometric analysis and mathematical representation to project and try out in miniature what will take place in a making before the actual making itself gets underway. This new form of making, which is a kind of thinking, gives to making and using a greater power and effectiveness than ever before in human history. At the same time, and because of its powerful thinking, it calls for a greater consideration of consequences than was ever previously the case in making and using. This new ethical requirement can be summarized as a duty plus respicere. Although there such a duty presents its own challenges, it nevertheless acknowledges the metaphysical implications of technological design and points the way toward authenticity in technological design practice.
