Objective To investigate the antipyretic effect of immersion bath with Qinghao Xiangru Powder (QXP) for treatment of children summer externally contracted fever. Methods Four hundred and twenty children with summer externally contracted fever were equally randomized into treatment group and control group. Both groups would given routine anti-inflammtory and antiviral treatment. If the body temperature of the patients in both groups was over 38.5℃, buprofen tablets would be used, and the patients of treatment group would also given immersion bath with QXP. After treatment, the therapeutic effect was evaluated, and the frequency of oral administration of buprofen tablets was also observed. Results ( 1 ) The cure rate was 32.38% and the total effective rate was 92.86% in the treatment group, and was 20.48 %, 84.29% respectively in the control group, the difference being significant (P 〈 0.05 ). (2) The frequency of oral administration of buprofen tablets was 156 times in the treatment group, and was 468 times in the control group, the difference being significant (P 〈 0. 05 ). (3) No adverse reaction was found in the children during the treatment. Conclusion Immersion bath with QXP has synergistic action on the antipyretic effect of conventional medicine for treatment of children summer externally contracted fever, and it is safe and convenient.
