Objective To investigate the effect of glutamic acid decarboxy/ase antibody on interferon in treating patients with chronic hepatitis C. Methods Sixty-six patients with chronic hepatitis C in Tangshan Yutian Hospital and the Fifth Hospital of Shijiazhuang were selected and divided into two groups by the level of glutamic acid decarboxylase antibody : group A ( n = 34) and group B ( n = 32), and all the patients were given interferon for 48 weeks, the liver function, negative rate of HCV-RNA, T lymphocyte level and non-response rate of interferon were compared after treatment. Results Hepatitis C virus negative rate of group B patients after treatment was 84.4%, and durable virologic response rate was 59.4%, which were significantly better than those of group A (P 〈 0. 05 ), and after treatment liver function and T lymphocyte levels of group B was also significantly better than those of group A (P 〈 0. 05). Conclusion Glutamic acid decarboxylase antibody is an important clinical damage indicator of glucose tolerance and immunity, and also can affect the mechanism of interferon and lower its clinical effect in treating chronic hepatitis C.
