OBJECTIVE To establish and implement the standard operation procedures of intravenous infusion to withdraw the needle,so as to reduce the incidence of the contaminated needlestick injuries and the risk of infections.METHODS By means of case-control study, totally 105 clinical nurses were withdrawn the needle in 2009 by using the conventional method, and 115 clinical nurses were withdrawn the needles by using the standard operation, the change of the incidence of contaminated scalp acupuncture injuries among the two groups of nurses was observed.RESULTS The incidence rate of the contaminated scalp acupuncture injuries was 11.43% of the nurses with being withdrawn the needle by the conventional method and was 2.61% in the nurses with being withdrawn the needle by the standard operations, the difference was statistically significant(P0.05).CONCLUSION During the treatment service,it is effective to reduce the hazards of the sharp instruments and the risk of infections through the establishment of standard operations regulations for contaminated sharp instruments and the implementation of interventions.
