When discussing simple plots and actions in Chapter 9 of Poetics,Aristotle regards "epeisodidês" as the worst type in plots. In two popular Chinese versions of Poetics translated each by Luo Niansheng and Chen Zhongmei, the word "epeisodidês" is translated into interlude.Actually,it is not in according with Aristotle's primary meaning certainly.Because in Chinese, the word would mislead us to regard it as an issue inserting some other irrelative plots to break one action.Combining the Greek tragedy with the features of epeisodidês plot described by Aristotle, epeisodidês should be translated into piece in order to adapt Aristotle's primary meaning. It is a style of plot that there is not necessity among scenes. The wrong translation of epeisodidê has led to a series of problems. It not only misrepresents Aristotle's theory of one plot, but also makes the readers misunderstand Aristotle's theory on critical problems of drama such as how to make a tragedy and the comparison between the tragedy and epic.
