Objective To investigate the effects of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in couples on the fetal growth and pregnancy outcomes of assisted reproductive technology. Methods 34 infertile couples, with positive hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), receiving IVF/ICSI-ET, were included as infection group. And 102 infertile couples, with negative HBsAg, receiving IVF/ICSI-ET were included as control group. The normal fertilization rate, cleavage rate, rate of good quality embryos, implantation rate, and clinical pregnancy rate were recorded and compared between the two groups. Results Except for high-grade embryo rate (58.61% vs. 60.96%, P 〉 0.05), the normal fertilization rate, cleavage rate, implantation rate and clinical pregnancy rate in infection group were significantly lower than those in control group (77.11% vs. 84.61, 86.00% vs. 98.23%, 11.11% vs. 28.19%, 14.71% vs. 37.25%, all P 〈 0.05). Conchmion HBV infection in couples could affect the outcomes of in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer treatment.
