摘要
本文基于学习者学术英语语料库,考察了研究生学术英语语篇中外壳名词的使用特点,研究结果发现研究生整体缺乏使用外壳名词的意识,具体表现是使用的类符缺乏多样性、标准化频数明显少于本族语者;他们能够低频使用部分所属学科本族语者频繁使用的外壳名词,不同的学习者倾向于不重复地使用不同的外壳名词;学习者学术语篇中表达认知立场的外壳名词占绝大多数,对外壳名词的使用存在误用和缺省两种现象。本研究对学术英语写作和教学有借鉴意义。
Based on learners' EAP corpus, this research examines the features of shell nouns used in Chinese graduates' theses. The results indicate that there is a significant difference in the types and the standardized tokens of the shell nouns between Chinese learners' writing and native speakers' EAP writing in Charles study in 2003. Chinese graduate learners use the high-frequency shell nouns of their research area with low frequency and lack the consciousness of using shell nouns in their academic writing. A great majority of shell nouns are used to express epistemic stance and there exist misuse and omission of shell nouns in learners' writing. The findings are of significance to EAP writing and teaching.
