Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the oldest human diseases and is still a major infectious disease that greatly threatens human health. Thanks to the implementation of active and effective measures, TB has been controlled in developed countries, but TB has resurged in conjunction with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Co-infection encourages the development of both HIV and TB and causes a deterioration in status, rapidly leading to patient death. This is a major threat to human health and socioeconomic conditions. In recent years, studies on HIV and TB co-infection have made some progress; study of its pathogenesis research has yielded many new findings. This paper summarizes the pathogenic mechanism of HIV and TB co-infection.
