Objective To explore the tendency of the rate of giving birth by cesarean section (C-section), to find some strategy for controlling C-section. Methods From the data of all C-section cases in the recent 10 years in our hospital, the yearly rate of C-section and the constitutional "easons were calculated. Results The rate of C-section in the recent 10 years did not change significantly, being persistent at the levels ranging from 34.95% to 47.32%; fetal distress, cephalic dystocia and social factors were the first three causes for C-section, with an increasing tendency for the proportion of social factors. Conclusion In recent years social factor-determined C-section has taken nearly 20% of the total cases of this operation; the related health education has to be performed for reducing the rate of C-section and promoting the maternal health.
