Chemical cleaning of long-term operated uhrafiltration membrane was carried out using sodium hypochlorite and hydrochloric acid, respectively. Research method of uhrafihration membrane fouling based on chemical cleaning was used to identify the main components causing membrane fouling in the coagulation/immersed ultrafiltration combined process. The results showed that after cleaning with so- dium hypochlorite, concentrations of UV254, DOC, A1 and Fe in membrane tank increased by 0. 146 3 -1 cm , 4.14 mg/L, 0. 058 mg/L and 0.005 mg,/L, respectively, and then after cleaning with hydrochlo- ric acid, concentrations of UV254, DOC, A1 and Fe in membrane tank increased by 0.070 9 cm-1, O. 83 mg/L, 18. 293 mg/L and 2. 673 mg/L, respectively. After the combined chemical cleaning, the relative contents of C, O, Si and A1 on membrane surface decreased by 5.2% , 10.5%, 1.8% and O. 6% , re- spectively, and F contents increased by 17.8%. The presence of severe organic contamination and depo-sition of A1, Si and other inorganic elements was observed after long-term operation of the ultrafiltration membrane. The cleaning with sodium hypochlorite could effectively remove organic contamination, the following cleaning with hydrochloric acid could effectively eliminate deposition of inorganic elements and achieve further removal of organic matter, but residual contamination persisted after chemical cleaning.
