Background Cerebral hyperperfusion syndrome(CHS) is a rare, serious complication after carotid revascularization, which could lead to severe intracerebral hemorrhage and death if it is not timely discovered. Objective To summarize this syndrome for dealing with this complication and reducing the morbidity and mortality caused by CHS. Content This review includes pathophysiology, clinical manifestation, risk factors, diagnostic modalities, and disease management of complication after carotid revascularization. Trend It is difficult to clarify the mechanism of CHS because there is no suitable animal model of CHS at present. Therefore, more researches should be focused on establishing the animal models in order to clarify its mechanisms in future. The results obtained will not only enrich our understanding of CHS, but also provide therapeutic foundation for hyperperfusion and related diseases.
