The Consumption of Emotions and the Industry of Emotions: A Note on the Sociology of Consumption

摘要 在论述了现代社会生活中情感关系的疏远化的基础上,文章分析了现代社会中人们的情感需要的满足方式的变化。认为,不同于传统社会以人际情感沟通为情感满足和支持的主要方式,现代人的情感需要越来越借助于情感消费(从市场获取情感消费品)的方式来得到满足。于是,市场与情感产业成为现代人获得情感满足和支持的一种重要形式。这种情感市场化是现代性条件下人际关系疏远化的一种反应。 Based on a discussion of the alienation of emotional relations in contemporary social Life, this paper analyzes the transformation in the mode of emotional satisfaction and support. It is argued that, dif- fering from the traditional society in which people achieved their emotional satisfaction and support through emotional communication in social relationships, contemporary society increasingly resorts to emo- tional consumption (i.e., achieving the consumer goods of emotions from the market) in order to achieve emotional satisfaction. Thus, market or the emotional industry becomes a major form of emotional satis- faction and support in contemporary society.
