A field strain GD-l-12 of chicken anemia virus (CAV) was isolated from a 12-day-old broiler flock with growth runting syndromes from Gongdong province. MDCC-MSB1 cells were used to proliferate the virus of GD-l-12 isolate. SPF chickens at 1 day were challenged with the virus by intramuscular injection. Ratios of thymuses, spleens, livers, the bursas to body weight, and the CD3+ T cells in thymuses and pe- ripheral blood were analyzed after infection at 7, 14, 21-day. Observation of clinical symptoms at 7, 14, 21-day after infections with CAV. Results indicated that the GD-I-12 isolate caused high mortality about 30%, belonging to highly pathogenic. After infection at 14 day, resulting in severe thymic atrophy, hepa- tomegaly, bursa atrophy, spleen atrophy. After challenging at 7-14 day, the CD3+ T cells in thymuses and peripheral blood were significantly decreased, it indicated that T lymphocytes were the target cells. The research further illustrated that after infection at 7-14 day was the critical period of the immune func- tion with the serious obstacle.
